Discover the new version of the FAMAC Dimensioner and see how it can help you identify the best pumping solution
(Karin Ramos – Corporate Education)
First of all, if you have ever had contact with FAMAC, whether through digital media or through one of our products, you must be familiar with the Dimensioner. With it, you will certainly find the right pump for a specific application in just a few clicks.
This tool online, intuitive and free, uses technical data to quickly identify the most suitable pump model for your needs.
Imagine having access to a pump specialist 24/7!
In fact, now imagine this incredible tool IMPROVED! That's right! In other words, our engineering and information technology team managed to improve something that was already very good!
Before we show you what has changed for the better, let’s explain a little more about the “pain” of sizing and selecting the ideal equipment. This is something that sometimes leaves engineers, architects and designers full of doubts…
Why is choosing the right pump so important?
Selecting the ideal pump or motor pump for an application goes far beyond simply choosing a generic model. Each pumping system has its own particularities and technical requirements, which vary according to the type of fluid, the purpose of the installation and other crucial factors. From a simple transfer of clean water to pumping corrosive liquids, with solids or fibrous objects, the demands vary. Therefore, the choice of equipment must be precise to ensure efficiency and durability.
In fact, selecting the right pump optimizes the performance of the hydraulic system and helps reduce energy consumption, as well as minimizing maintenance costs. Although it is impossible to guarantee “zero defects” in any system, choosing the right equipment is key to avoiding future problems.
Among the different types of pumps, centrifugal pumps stand out primarily for their versatility. They are widely used for transferring low-pressure liquids. viscosity, system pressurization and other applications.
Likewise, another important point to remember is that, even among centrifugal models, it is not advisable to base your decision on a single variable, such as power. If you want to select the equipment that best suits each situation, make a detailed analysis of the operating conditions.
Therefore, choosing the right pump has a direct impact on the efficiency, durability and cost of your hydraulic system. An incorrectly sized pump can lead to problems such as:
- Premature wear and consequent reduction in the pump’s useful life.
- Excessive energy consumption, with increased operating costs.
- Frequent failures, even causing the system to stop working.
FAMAC sizer
With this in mind, FAMAC developed an efficient tool some time ago to facilitate the pump selection process. The FAMAC Sizing Tool has been helping professionals from various areas to find the ideal equipment for each situation. This is because, unlike other tools, it takes into account the specific parameters of the installation and the hydraulic system.
With the FAMAC Sizing Tool, you can select a pump model that is suitable for each application, with the certainty that the chosen pump will meet your specific needs. This reduces operating costs due to the use of inappropriate equipment, and even increases the equipment's useful life. All this with the FAMAC seal of approval.
And if it was already good like this, imagine the new version!
How does the new version of the FAMAC Dimensioner work?
The new version of the Dimensioner can be accessed in the same way as before. Easy to use and freely accessible, it does not require installation, as it runs directly in the internet browser. First, you need to go to the FAMAC website and access the Dimensioner tab.

It continues to be divided into 3 modules, but with different descriptions: selection by operating point, sizing by application and consultation by product.

Selection by Operating Point
Just like in the previous version, this first module is the most generic. In it, the user will basically need to fill in the flow rate and manometric height of the application. However, there are additional filters that are not mandatory to fill in, and they even appear minimized. However, if the data is known, it is worth filling in. This way, the system can filter the options even further and inform the best motor pump options according to these specifications.

Sizing by Application
“Sizing by Application” provides a more complete and accurate experience. It allows you to size the hydraulic system according to the various data provided for the installation and the selected segment.
So, to begin, the user will indicate in which segment the motor pump will be used. See the options that the Dimensioner presents:

After selecting the segment, a new feature of the new version appears: the opening of the application options. Before entering the data related to the system, the user indicates what purpose it will serve.

By selecting the purpose, a new window opens, requesting system data, with fields marked with (*) being mandatory. New fields and filters have been added and improved to make the indication even more effective. Based on the information provided, the system calculates the NPSH (Net Positive Suction Head) required by the installation. This will size the hydraulic system and select which FAMAC models can meet the information provided. (To understand why it is important to calculate NPSH, read a previous post on the subject by clicking here).
Search by Product
The third module is “Product Search”. It will be used most by those who already know the product and want to consult technical information or want to compare products. To do so, simply enter the model name or product code and the system will display the curve(s) of the associated model(s).

Performance Curves
Speaking of hydraulic performance curves, their presentation has also undergone revisions and improvements. The graphs have been improved in readability, with the adoption of scales according to the curves and the expansion of the flow range. More captions have also been added to better identify the curves. The function of viewing an illustrative photo of the pump model before clicking and selecting the model has also been added.
For those who want or need more detailed data on item performance, the “Advanced Presentation” button has been added. This provides access to a very complete table with advanced calculation results. The numerical values provided allow you to compare all selected models that meet the design requirements.
Another very interesting new feature was the addition of what we call restrictions and alerts. These are warnings that appear when the search finds pump models that may meet the design requirements, but do not satisfactorily meet all the needs of the application itself (for example, cavitation) or whose installation conditions are not technically compatible or ideal (for example, the requirement is very far from ideal performance).
Technical Information and Technical Proposal
It is worth mentioning that the FAMAC Dimensioner allows you to print and share technical information and proposal files. These documents include physical characteristics, performance data and related graphs, as well as left-wing for access to various other relevant information.
So much stuff, right? With an intuitive interface, the new version of Dimensionador continues to be easy to navigate, even for those who are not pump experts.
