When the water pressure in supply networks is not sufficient, as sometimes happens in homes, buildings, hotels, condominiums, industries and irrigation systems, installing a pressurization system is an excellent alternative. As we explain how they work, we will show that the Esybox line of pressurizers is the best option.


First, let's give an explanation. A water pressurization system is a set of equipment designed to increase water pressure in a hydraulic network. First of all, we need to explain that these systems are made up of several components.



Alternative


The pump, of course, is the main component of the pressurization system, responsible for increasing the water pressure before distributing it through the hydraulic network.


Along with it, another important item is the pressure controller. Used to monitor and control water pressure in the hydraulic network, it ensures that it remains within safe limits.


Equally important is the reservoir that will store the pressurized water for later use.


In addition to these components, the water pressurization system may include other parts, such as filters, pressure gauges, safety devices, etc., depending on the specific needs of each application.


Primarily, there are two alternative pressurization systems: variable pressure on-off and those with constant pressure. Come with us to find out a little more about each of them.



On-Off Variable Pressure System


In this solution, the motor pump always works at 100% of its capacity when activated. In this sense, this system comprises:

  • Pump, any type of pump can be used, but the most common are surface centrifuges (horizontal or vertical, single or multistage).
  • Hydraulic connections.
  • Check valve, which prevents water that has already been pumped from returning, in short, protecting the pump against reverse rotations.
  • Expansion tank, which increases the elasticity of the system, protecting the pump above all against water hammer.
  • Activation and shutdown device.

As an on/off device there are two alternatives:

  • Mechanical pressure switch: detects the water pressure in the hydraulic network through a spring. This spring is calibrated at the factory to turn the pump on when the pressure reaches a minimum value and turn the pump off when the pressure reaches a maximum value.
  • Automatic controller: also called electronic pressure switch, it activates the pump when the pressure detected by the integrated electronic sensor reaches the determined minimum value. Turns off the pump when a lack of flow is detected, protecting the pump against dry operation and turning it off in the event of a lack of water.


Constant Pressure System


Unlike the on-off in which the pump always works at maximum capacity, in a constant pressure system the pump operates proportionally to demand, regulating the engine rotations to maintain constant network pressure.


This solution is composed of the same elements as the system on-off, with the drive device being an automatic controller associated with a fundamental component: the frequency inverter.


The frequency inverter detects the water pressure in the network using a pressure transducer. In short, based on the information received, the pump speed increases or decreases according to the water consumption in the network, thus keeping the set pressure always constant, generating water and energy savings.


The integration and management of all elements of this system can be done using an external control panel or an electronic board. Unlike conventional constant pressure systems, in the most modern systems these elements are designed, developed and integrated into a single piece of equipment, in surface or submersible versions.


In figure 1 it is possible to see a conventional constant pressure system at the top and a more modern one at the bottom.

Practicality and space savings with the adoption of integrated pressurizers, as is the case with the Esybox Max.

In case of high water demand, such as in condominiums, hotels and hospitals, for example, it may be necessary to use a group of two or more pumps installed together in parallel, thus guaranteeing supply. In these cases, centralized management of the various elements of the system becomes even more important, resulting in the need for communication between the multiple pumps.
