Environmental sustainability actions in industries are important for several reasons. Certainly the first and most important thing is to preserve the environment, especially at a time when climate change and pollution are becoming increasingly serious.
Furthermore, companies that adopt sustainable practices can benefit economically in several ways. Namely, the most obvious is the reduction of costs, whether in materials or resources, or by adopting more efficient production processes.
At the same time, they can also benefit from improving the industry's image in the consumer market and from being able to serve a public that strives for environmentally friendly products and services.
In this sense, another benefit of adopting sustainable practices has to do with meeting or even anticipating more stringent government regulations. Such regulations can require large investments in a short period of time or even severe fines.
However, it turns out that, unfortunately, not every industry is aware of this, neither for their own financial health nor for the good of the planet. But you can already imagine that this is NOT the case with FAMAC!
How FAMAC deals with environmental issues
This is how FAMAC deals with environmental issues. Namely, here at the company we value the intelligent and renewable use of natural resources, thinking about not compromising the future of the next generations. Furthermore, we understand that it is our responsibility to also contribute with actions to generate greater environmental awareness on the part of employees, business partners and customers, in favor of the collective good.
Likewise, we also count on the partnership of BioEco Ambiental, an environmental consultancy company that guides us whenever necessary, in search of sustainable development and in maintaining the conditions of the environmental license.
Now it’s time to show in practice how things happen here, right? See what we invest in our efforts towards environmental sustainability:
- In the use of natural lighting, through the use of translucent tiles, which generates energy savings.
- In the rainwater collection system, used for cleaning and gardening.
- In its sanitary effluent treatment system, preserving the environment and the health of the population.
- In an optimized production process, in order to save energy and raw materials, preserving natural resources.
At the same time, FAMAC implemented the Degraded Areas Recovery Program from 2017 to 2020 with the purpose of recovering part of the Permanent Preservation Area of the Itapocuzinho River. To this end, it planted, monitored and maintained more than three hundred native tree seedlings. In total, 2.858 square meters were now naturally recovered, constituting a forest in an advanced stage of regeneration.
Programs
Currently, FAMAC also has two other programs:
- The Environmental Education Program, which aims to encourage awareness and respect for the environment among employees, encouraging sustainable practices and saving natural resources.
- The Waste Management Program – PGR, which aims to reuse, recycle and correctly dispose of waste, thus contributing to a cleaner planet.
Regarding the latter, it is worth mentioning that all waste leaving the factory is controlled via MTR – Waste Transport Manifesto, in compliance with the National Solid Waste Policy. Plastic, paper and cardboard, light bulbs, paint and varnish sludge, ferrous metal filings and shavings, which combined in 2022 totaled almost 37 tons. Everything transported and duly registered, in case it is necessary to track any cargo, as well as prove its appropriate destination.
Compliance with Environmental Legislation
Through these practices and programs, we are in full compliance with environmental legislation and with the IMA – Institute of the Environment of Santa Catarina, which guarantees that we operate safely and with the support of public authorities.
The renewal of our environmental licensing came out recently, it is valid until 2027 and covers our entire usable area of more than 19 thousand square meters. It's great to work, be a partner and buy products from a company like FAMAC!
We certainly understand that being sustainable is no longer an option, but a necessity. Globally we have an urgent and collective demand to save non-renewable natural resources for the benefit of future generations. Therefore, if changes in our lifestyle, production and consumption were not made, this bill will be charged very soon.
